"We forget all too soon the things we thought we could never forget." – Joan Didion
Hi, there. This is the DailyBean team.
Can you remember what you had for lunch yesterday? What about the specific emotion you felt last Saturday? If you are drawing a blank, don’t worry. You are just living a normal, busy life like the rest of us.
We often brush off our days by saying “nothing much happened.” But is that really true? That afternoon you laughed so much with your best friend, the secret heartache of a crush, that quiet moment when you felt truly hopeful about the future. Our lives are filled with these small things that are painted in so many different colors.
How it started? It all started with a penguin robot
Believe it or not, DailyBean didn't start as an app. It was supposed to be an AI penguin robot. We wanted to build a physical companion that could listen to your feelings and understand you when you were exhausted.
But when we started interviewing people to design the robot, we realized something we didn't expect. People didn't need fancy high tech gadgets. What they really needed was just a tiny bit of space to check in with themselves and ask "How am I actually doing today?"
Recognizing your own emotions in the middle of a chaotic day is harder than it looks, yet it is more important than anything else. We decided to stop obsessing over robot parts and start focusing on people's hearts right now. That is when Hailey, our Product Owner, gathered two developers and spent two months working day and night to plant the very first seed of DailyBean.
So, why did we land on journaling?
We chose journaling because it is the ultimate tool for self-care and personal growth. Think of it as a backup drive for your life. Even if you forget the details of a random Tuesday, you can always look back at your entries and relive those tiny, precious moments.
Beyond nostalgia, journaling is a powerful way to organize your mind. It helps you zoom out and see the bigger picture of your life. When you keep at it, these daily snippets naturally turn into a personal archive—a living history of who you are. There is something incredibly special about seeing your own growth laid out like a timeline, helping you become a better version of yourself every single day.
The only catch is that most of us give up too early because traditional journaling feels like a chore. That gap between "I should record my life" and "This is actually fun" is exactly why we created DailyBean.
How it’s going? It’s chosen by 10 million users
A tool is useless if it is too hard to use. We know that facing a blank page can be intimidating, and sometimes we are just too tired to type. So, we let go of everything else and focused on one core mission: making journaling effortless.
We spent years obsessing over the details to make sure recording your day never feels like homework.
Six years later, this obsession with simplicity has led DailyBean to 10 million downloads worldwide. People all over the world are still planting their beans every day, building their own archives without the stress of long-form writing.
Every day counts
This is the one sentence our team has believed in since day one. A lifelong habit of self-reflection starts with just three seconds of your day today.
Our memories are not as reliable as we wish they were. Days that aren't recorded tend to slip away like sand. But with DailyBean, recording becomes easy and memories last longer. The only thing you have to do is pick one icon to answer this simple question:
“How was your day?”
